What We Can Help With
We read everything that arrives. Some requests we can act on quickly, others we cannot help with at all, and it saves you time to know which is which before you write.
Things we can usually resolve:
- The speedometer not starting, or the gauge staying at zero after GPS permission was granted
- Readings that look clearly wrong : stuck values, wild jumps, wrong units
- Layout problems on a specific phone, tablet or browser
- Factual corrections to anything written on the site
- Privacy questions, including what the site does and does not collect
- Advertising and partnership enquiries
Things we cannot help with:
- Disputing a speeding ticket. We cannot supply evidence, logs or a statement, because the site keeps no record of your journeys : that is the whole point of processing everything on your own device.
- Recovering past sessions. Nothing is stored, so there is nothing to retrieve.
- Calibrating or repairing a vehicle speedometer. That needs a qualified mechanic.
Before You Write: Common Fixes
Most reports we receive have the same handful of causes, and all of them are solvable in under a minute:
- The gauge shows zero and never moves. GPS needs actual movement to calculate speed. Standing still correctly reads zero. Walk a few metres and the number should respond.
- Nothing happens when you tap Start GPS. Location permission was probably denied. Check the padlock icon in your browser's address bar and allow location for this site.
- The reading is slow to appear. A cold GPS fix can take 20–60 seconds, especially the first time or after a flight. Near a window or outdoors is much faster than deep inside a building.
- Your speed differs from the car's dashboard. This is normal and expected. Vehicle speedometers are legally required to never under-read, so most show 2–8% high. Ours is usually the closer figure.
- It cut out in a tunnel. Satellites cannot be reached underground. The reading resumes on the other side.
Privacy and Data Requests
Zpeedometer does not hold an account, a profile or a location history for you, so in most cases there is no personal data for us to export or delete. If you contact us by email we will of course have your message and your email address, and you can ask us to delete those at any time. Our Privacy Policy sets out the full detail, and our Terms of Service covers acceptable use.

What to include in a bug report
If something on the speedometer tool isn't working right, the fastest way to get it fixed is to tell us:
- Which page you were on (e.g. car-speed-checker, the homepage tool)
- Your device and browser (e.g. iPhone Safari, Android Chrome, laptop)
- Whether you were indoors/outdoors and whether GPS permission was granted
- What you expected to happen versus what actually happened
