Random Number Generator: Fair and Instant
Pick a random number between any two values, or a whole set of them with no repeats. Built on your browser's cryptographic random source, so every number has an equal chance.
History
Press Enter in any box to generate.
How to pick a random number
Enter the lowest and highest numbers you want, then press Generate. Both ends are included, so 1 to 10 can give 1 or 10. Want several numbers at once? Set How many, up to 1,000. Tick No repeats for a draw where each number can only come up once, like a raffle or a lottery, and Sort results to list them in order. The presets fill in common ranges in one tap.
Your last ten results stay in the history list, which helps when you run several rounds of a game or a draw in front of other people.
How random is it?
Very. Many simple number pickers use a fast pseudo-random function designed for animations and games, which is fine for fun but not built for fairness. This generator uses your browser's cryptographic random number source, the same one that creates encryption keys for secure websites. It also avoids a common mistake called modulo bias, which makes some numbers in a range slightly more likely than others. Every number in your range has exactly the same chance.
The numbers are generated on your device and are not sent to or stored on any server.
Ideas for using it
- Raffles and giveaways: number your tickets or entries, set the range, and draw winners with No repeats on.
- Classroom: pick a student by register number, or set quiz questions in random order.
- Games: roll a six-sided die, a twenty-sided die (1 to 20) or several dice at once with How many.
- Decisions: 0 or 1 works as a coin toss; 1 to N picks from a numbered list of options.
- Sampling: choose random rows from a spreadsheet for a spot check or survey.
- Lottery picks: the 6 of 49 preset gives six different numbers in order. Every combination is as likely as any other, so no pick improves your chances.
Running a fair public draw
For a draw people will trust, show the screen while you generate, announce the range and settings first, and take a screenshot of the result with the history visible. Use No repeats when drawing several winners so no entry wins twice.
Negative and large numbers
Ranges can include negative numbers, such as −50 to 50, and can be as large as about four billion numbers wide. If you enter the minimum and maximum the wrong way round, the generator swaps them for you.
Random number generator: frequently asked questions
Is this random number generator truly random?
It uses your browser's cryptographic random source, which is unpredictable and suitable for security uses, and it avoids modulo bias so every number is equally likely.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes. A range of 1 to 10 can return any whole number from 1 to 10.
How do I pick numbers without repeats?
Tick No repeats and set How many. Each number in the range can then appear only once.
Can I generate negative numbers?
Yes. Enter a negative minimum, such as −100, and the generator includes negative numbers.
How many numbers can I generate at once?
Up to 1,000 per press. With No repeats, you cannot ask for more numbers than the range contains.
Can I use it for a raffle?
Yes. Number your tickets, set the range, tick No repeats and generate as many winners as you need.
