Free online tally counter

Online Counter With Sound

A tally counter that works in your browser. Tap the big button or press space to count, and hear every click, a beep, or the number read out loud. Your count is saved if you close the page.

Ready

Space, Enter or ↑ adds one. ↓ or Backspace takes one away.

How to use the online counter

Tap the large number, tap + 1, or press the space bar to add one. Use − 1, the down arrow or Backspace to take one away if you over-count. Reset sets the counter back to zero, and for five seconds afterwards the button turns into Undo in case you pressed it by mistake.

The count is stored in your browser, so it is still there if you close the tab, lock your phone or come back tomorrow. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account.

A counter with sound

Most online counters are silent, which is a problem when you are counting without looking at the screen. Pick the sound that suits what you are doing:

  • Click: a short mechanical tick, like a hand tally counter. Taking one away gives a lower click so you can hear the difference.
  • Beep: a softer tone that carries further in a noisy room.
  • Voice: your phone reads the new number out loud, so you always know the count without looking. Useful for exercise reps, laps and stock counts.
  • Silent: no sound, for libraries, meetings and places of worship.

On Android phones each count also gives a small buzz, which you can switch off. iPhones do not let websites vibrate, so on iOS you get sound only.

Counting towards a target

Enter a target, for example 33, 100 or 500, and the counter shows how many are left. When you reach it you hear a two-tone chime, feel a longer vibration, and the number changes colour. This works well for prayer counts, rep sets, stitch counts in knitting and crochet, and production quotas.

Counting people and foot traffic

A foot counter online is a simple way to count people entering a shop, an event or a classroom. Stand at the door, hold your phone and tap once per person. The screen stays readable at arm's length and the click confirms each tap, so you can watch the door rather than your phone. For counting in and out at the same time, use + 1 for people entering and − 1 for people leaving, and the number shows how many are inside.

Count by more than one

Set Count by to 2, 5, 10 or any number up to 1,000 and each tap adds that amount. This is handy for counting pairs, boxes of ten, or money in fixed notes.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a computer you can count without the mouse. Space, Enter, the up arrow or the plus key add one. The down arrow, the minus key or Backspace take one away. Shortcuts pause while you are typing in the Count by or Target boxes.
