See your live speed update every second, with a trace of the last two minutes, a speed alert, a full-screen drive mode and a mirrored HUD view for the windscreen at night.
Tap Start GPS and allow location access
Tap Start GPS and the gauge goes live. Here is what each control on the speedometer does.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Live speed | Updates about once a second from your phone GPS |
| Last 2 minutes trace | A small graph of your recent speed, so you can see if you are speeding up or slowing down |
| Alert | Warns you when you go over a speed you choose |
| Drive mode | Full screen with very large numbers |
| HUD | Mirrors the display so it reads correctly as a reflection in the windscreen |
| Peak, Average, Distance, Time | A running summary of your trip |
Turn on HUD and Drive mode, set the screen to full brightness and lay the phone flat on the dashboard below the windscreen. The speed reflects in the glass the right way round. It works best in the dark, and a non-slip mat stops the phone sliding.

Tap Start GPS and allow location access. Your live speed appears in a few seconds and keeps updating while the page is open. Choose km/h, mph, m/s or knots.
Phone GPS calculates a fresh position and speed about once a second, so the live speed is always a moment behind. When you brake hard, the gauge catches up within a second or two. For steady driving, this delay makes no difference.
Most phones dim and lock the screen after a short time, which pauses the speedometer. Drive mode asks the browser to keep the screen awake. Plug the phone into a charger on long trips, as GPS with the screen on uses more battery.
The number next to the Alert button shows the current GPS accuracy. A small number, such as ±5 m, means a reliable speed. Indoors, in tunnels or between tall buildings the accuracy gets worse and the live speed can jump about.
About once a second, which is how often phone GPS produces a new position and speed.
Yes. This live speedometer runs in your browser on Android and iPhone. Tap Start GPS and allow location access.
HUD mode mirrors the display. Put the phone flat on the dashboard and the speed reflects in the windscreen the right way round, like a head-up display.
When you stand still, small GPS position errors can look like movement. The effect is largest indoors and near tall buildings.
No. Browsers pause GPS when the page is hidden or the screen locks. Keep the page open, and use Drive mode to keep the screen on.
